What is Islam?
The word Islam comes from the Arabic “istislam” and means submission: the willing submission to the will of the one Creator of the heavens and the earth, Allah. It means turning to Allah with Tawhid (the oneness of Allah), obeying Him, and freeing oneself from everything that is worshiped besides Him.
Through this submission, a person finds guidance and happiness, in this world and in the Hereafter.
When his Lord said to him, “Submit,” he said, “I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds.”
Surah 2:131
… Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion. …
Surah 5:3 (excerpt)

Who is Allah?
Allah is the name of the Creator of the heavens and the earth. The Arabic word for “god” is “ilah”; “Allah” is the name of the one true God. Allah is the Creator of everything that exists. He directs all things, provides for all, and to Him is the final return. He is the God of all the prophets: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them all). They all brought the same message: to worship Him alone and to avoid everything that is worshiped besides Him.
Say: “He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is He begotten, and there is none comparable to Him.”
Surah 112:1–4

Why are we here?
We are not here by chance, and not without reason. We are here to fulfil the purpose of our creation: to worship Allah alone and to associate nothing with Him. Allah created us, He provides for us, and He has not left us to ourselves. Whoever recognizes Him and worships Him alone knows where he comes from and where he is going.
I have not created the jinn (spirit beings) and mankind except to worship Me.
Surah 51:56

Who is the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ?
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the last prophet whom Allah sent to all of mankind. He was born in Makkah in the year 570 and was known, even before his prophethood, as “as-Sadiq al-Amin”, the truthful and trustworthy. At the age of 40 he received the first revelation through the angel Gabriel. He brought the same message as the prophets before him: to worship the one and only God, Allah, and to renounce everything that is worshiped besides Allah.
We have not sent you [O Prophet] except as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner to all mankind, but most people do not know.
Surah 34:28

The Quran
The Quran is the word of Allah and the final revelation to mankind. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through the angel Gabriel, piece by piece over 23 years. Since its revelation it has been preserved unchanged, down to the last letter. Millions of Muslims around the world have memorized it and passed it on. It is a guide for life.
O people, there has come to you an exhortation from your Lord, a cure for [illness] of the hearts, a guidance and mercy for the believers.
Surah 10:57

Death
Death. A reality that no one can escape. It is the end of everything we know: the end of friendships, the end of relationships, the final parting of those who love each other. The end of desires, the end of plans, the end of wishes, the end of deeds.
It reaches everyone. No matter where you are. No matter where you come from. No matter how rich you are or how poor, how strong or how weak, how healthy or how ill. Death will reach you.
Say, “The death from which you run away will surely overcome you, then you will be brought back to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”
Surah 62:8

The Grave
The first station after death. Your next home after the house you live in now. Your next bed, in which you will sleep for a long time. The beginning of a long journey: full of torment, tightness and darkness for the disbeliever, or full of bliss, space and light for the believer. Have you packed enough provisions?
What will you answer when the two angels, Munkar and Nakir, ask you: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your prophet?
“Alas, alas! I do not know.” The same answer to each of the three questions. Then a caller calls from heaven: “He has lied. Spread out a bed for him from Hell, clothe him from Hell and open a door to Hell for him.” Its heat and its scorching wind reach him, and his grave becomes so tight that his ribs are pressed into one another. Then one who is blind and mute is set over him, with a hammer that would crush a mountain to dust. Everything between east and west hears the blow, except humans and jinn.
“My Lord is Allah. My religion is Islam. He is the Messenger of Allah.” Then a caller calls from heaven: “My servant has spoken the truth. Spread out a bed for him from Paradise, clothe him from Paradise and open a door to Paradise for him.” Its breeze and its fragrance reach him, and his grave is made wide, as far as the eye can see.

The Day of Resurrection
The Day on which every single person is called to account. The Day on which no one is wronged. The Day on which there will be no more kinship and no friendships. A heavy Day that no one will escape. A Day whose length is fifty thousand years.
That is because Allah is the Truth; He alone gives life to the dead, and He is the Most Capable of all things. The Hour is certainly coming; there is no doubt about it, and Allah will surely resurrect those who are in the graves.
Surah 22:6–7

Paradise
Paradise is the eternal home of the believers. Allah has promised it to those who worship their Lord alone and associate nothing with Him. There are gardens through which rivers flow, and they enjoy forever whatever their souls desire. The path there begins here and today.
But for those who fear their Lord will be gardens under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever - a welcoming gift from Allah; and what is with Allah is best for the righteous.
Surah 3:198

Hell
Hell is a place of eternal torment. It is destined for those who deny their Lord. A terrible place, full of torment, punishment and separation from the Most Merciful. The warning is serious. Choose wisely.
For those who disbelieve in their Lord there will be the punishment of Hell. What a terrible destination!
Surah 67:6

The Shahadah
The Shahadah is the testimony by which one becomes a Muslim. It consists of two parts: “None has the right to be worshiped except Allah” and “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”. The first part negates everything that is worshiped besides Allah. The second means believing the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), obeying him and following him. This testimony is like the key to Paradise. If you are convinced and want to set out on the journey of the believers, then say the Shahadah now.
Allah testifies that none has the right to be worshiped except Him, as do the angels and people of knowledge; He is the Upholder of justice. None has the right to be worshiped except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Surah 3:18
Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasuulu Allah
I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger.
We recommend that you repeat the Shahadah in front of a Muslim when you are ready. That way your brothers and sisters know that you are a Muslim.
